Francois Modave Assistant Professor
| ||
| Biographical Sketch | |||
| Professor Modave received a master degree (D.E.A., diplome d'etudes approfondies) in mathematics applied to engineering from the University of Paris 9 Dauphine in September 1994, after having completed a Bachelors degree in mathematics and computer science. His masters thesis dealt with solving Mayer's problem in finite dimensions, under constraints, with differential inclusions, and was done under the supervision of Prof. H. Frankowska. During this time, he was invited to join the Center for Mathematical Research. | |||
| Turning to more Computer Science -oriented research, he chose to work on fuzzy measures and integrals applied to Decision Theory for his doctoral work. His PhD supervisors were Dr. Michel Grabisch of Thomson-CSF and Paris 6 University, and Dr. Henri Prade of IRIT-Toulouse III. This work was presented at national and international conferences, including IPMU, AAAI, and IJCAI as a poster presentation. He completed the PhD in March 1999. | |||
| He worked as a researcher/lecturer at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia, in the Knowledge, Visualization and Ordering Group of Prof. Peter Eklund. He is now an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas at El Paso. | |||
| His research interests are fuzzy logic, fuzzy measures and integrals, decision theory, and more generally the representation of uncertainty. | |||
| More recently he has started working on various topics in computer security and information assurance. | |||
