Welcome to Computer Science at the University of Texas at El Paso. The computer industry is one of the fastest growing segments of our economy, and that growth promises to continue well into the next century. More than ever, there is a demand for a diverse, prepared work force with the scientific and technical training necessary to succeed on the job. You can apply a degree in computer science to many challenging problems: creating interpretive environments that advance science and work toward saving our environment, creating special effects for the movie industry, designing governmental emergency response systems, enhancing music and art, empowering the disabled, and saving lives through better medical diagnosis and instrumentation. Now is the time to plan your future in computing.

Our goal at UTEP is to provide students with computer science programs of the highest quality through a participatory approach to education, research, and service to the community. Students who graduate from our program succeed in many different career paths. We offer an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Computer Science, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Our programs value excellence in research and education. Our research focuses on computer science theory and its applications (reasoning under uncertainty and security), high-performance computing (dynamic adaptation of applications and parallel and distributed computing), human-computer interaction (spoken dialog), and software engineering (software verification and validation with applications to grid computing). The department has a tradition of collaborative research across research groups, across departments, and with outside organizations.
