-
Research Assistant (Spring 1996-present):
Working in the
Knowledge Representation Group under the supervision of
Dr. Chitta Baral. Conducting research in reasoning about actions, knowledge representation
and reasoning, and multi-media databases. In reasoning about actions, we
focus on the study of sensing actions and reactivity. Our formalization
of sensing actions has proven to be very useful in relating different
approaches
to reasoning about sensing actions and developing conditional planners.
We developed a new theory of reactive agents which shows that resoning about
actions is indispensible to reactive agents in general and mobile robots
in particular. Based on our theory, we implemented a robot control system.
Our robotics team won the third and the first
place in the AAAI'96 and AAAI'97 robot competitions. We also work on a
display specification language, SQL+D, that allows SQL users to
specify the displayment of answers to SQL queries. In knowledge representation
and reasoning, we are working on representing and reasoning with specificities
and prioritized defaults. Some of the results of our research have been
published in different journals, conferences, and workshops.
-
System Analyst (1994 - 1995): Administrative
System Development Unit, and
Research Associate, EPCCT, Asian Institute of Technology,
Bangkok, Thailand.
As a system analyst, I designed and developed different
management systems for the institute. For example, the account receivable/payable
system, the housing information system, the student admission and registration
system, etc. The institute has more than 1,200 faculty and staff, 1,300
students, and most of the students are staying in the institute's accomodations.
-
Senior Software Engineer (1990 - 1992): Institute
of Information Technology,
Hanoi, Vietnam. Worked as programmer and researcher
in various projects. I became the chief programmer in the project of Computerization
of the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam after joining the institute a few
months. I also worked in a Software Engineering project in which we developed
a system, named CAPR (Computer Aided Programs Reading), to aid users
in understanding Fortran programs.
-
Software Engineer (1987 - 1989): Vietnam
Informatics Company, Hanoi, Vietnam.
Worked mainly as a programmer to create tailor-made
softwares for our customers. I learned a number of programming languages
such as C, Pascal, Dbase, and Fortran, etc. in this period. My most valuable
experience was to take part in a project aimed at developing a Vietnamese
word processor when such softwares were not available on the market. I was
responsible for the printing service of the system.
