Financial Information

Funding for graduate students is available in the form of fellowships and scholarships, teaching assistantships and research assistantships. Students may also apply for federal grants and loans. The Graduate Program Coordinator maintains a list of current fellowship/internship/scholarship opportunities. As new information on opportunities becomes available, they are announced via the graduate list serve. If you have not been added to the list serve, or you wish to update your e-mail address, please send a message to the Graduate Program Coordinator requesting to be added to the list.
Visit the UTEP Graduate School website to view the current index for tuition and fees.

TA & RA Positions

The Department of Computer Science makes every effort to support fulltime PhD students for either RA or TA positions. It is important that when applying, applications are received early so that those students may be considered for funding. Late applicants may not be considered for funding or may need to defer.
In general, any fulltime M.S. or Ph.D. student in good academic standing may apply for a Teaching Assistantship. The positions are offered to qualified students based on an application, the Student's transcript, a written essay and recommendation letters. It is important that applications be submitted on time and completely. Applications can be picked up in the CS office. For more information or if you have additional questions, contact the Graduate Program Coordinator, Aida Gandara.

Research Assistantships are offered by individual professors to qualified students in the M.S. (thesis option) and Ph.D. programs. They are primarily appointed to perform duties associated with a research project. To apply for a research assistantship position, please contact the faculty member that is related to your area of research.

All applicants to the Ph.D. program are automatically considered for TA and RA positions.
