Information technology
professionals play a needed, critical role in
the economies of the United States and the
world. They face evolving, interesting
challenges and develop professional solutions.
Much of our daily life—at work and at
home—depends on their insight and skill. National workforce reports indicate that the
demand for IT professionals will far outstrip
the supply for the foreseeable future.
UTEP's Masters of Information
Technology (MIT) program helps students join this
exciting world. The MIT program is an
interdisciplinary program jointly offered by the
Department of Computer Science (in the College of
Engineering) and the Department of Information and
Decision Sciences (in the College of Business
Administration). Both colleges are fully accredited
by the respective highest accrediting bodies. Though
new, the MIT program is built upon the strong
foundation and resources already established in both
colleges. The program was started in fall 2000 and
has produced over 50 graduates.
UTEP's MIT students are
prepared to use information technology to add value
to organizations and to make information technology
decisions that enhances the competitive edge of the
organizations. The curriculum is infused with the
most current business needs and practices. The
program admits
well-qualified students and prepares them to take
leadership roles as information technology managers
and consultants, and to assume increasingly
important roles related to information technology
design and implementation, strategic planning, and
strategic uses of information technology. Our
graduates have the technical knowledge and business skills needed to
succeed in today's technologically advanced global
economy.
