MSIT Degree Plan

As you may have heard, the College of Engineering is taking the Masters of Information Technology (MIT) program in an exciting direction that will provide students with a program that provides greater depth in computer science, more courses in management, and more flexibility. The program, with a new abbreviation of “MSIT” starts this fall. In a nutshell,

  • Total program hours remain exactly the same
  • A for-credit project course replaces the non-credit final presentation (the non-project thesis option is still available)
  • The program’s computing courses will come from the CS MS program, including a new non-project course in software engineering
  • The program’s management courses will come from the MBA program, so students will can build skills more directly

Students currently enrolled in the MIT program can choose either (a) to complete their studies under the current program, substituting courses from the CS MS and MBA programs or (b) to transition to the MSIT program, with full credit for MIT courses already completed. Copies of the new catalog section for the MSIT program and a guide to course substitution during the transition are attached.

The faculty of the College of Engineering look forward to providing you this new approach to professional education combining computer technology and skills in management. For summer advising, please work with Dr. Sassenfeld, and for fall advising with Dr. Longpré. For general questions about the program or just to talk about your career, you can talk with Dr. Sassenfeld, Dr. Longpré, or Dr. Novick.
