Master's of Science in Engineering: Software Engineering
The MSSwE program is based on the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK), the IEEE Certified Software Development Professional(CSDP), the Graduate Software Engineering 2009 curriculum (GSwE2009), and the needs of local and regional employers.
We anticipate any of the following groups of students to be interested in entering the program:
- Students who have earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or closely related field who wish to enhance their training;
- Students are making a mid-career transition into software engineering; and
- Software professionals who want to advance their careers with an advanced degree.
Students entering the program will be expected to be able to design, implement and verify programs in at least one computer language. The program consists of two parts. In the first part, students take courses that prepare them to take either the CDSP or the CDSA examination. In the second part, students are given in-depth exposure to a given domain and complete their preparation through application of software engineering methodology to a substantial project. The first part will take one year of part-time study. The second part will take an additional 12-to-18 months of part-time study. For highly motivated, full-time students, the program may be completed in a 12-18 months.
