A symbol on the rock slope is visible in the foreground. An interpretation following the analysis of Martineau (LeVan Martineau, The Rocks Begin to Speak, Las Vegas, NV: KC Publications, 1973) might suggest that the straight line points to something, with the branch down to the right meaning that the thing is close. The lack of an accompanying symbol indicating what's being pointed to may be because travelers would know what they're looking for. The arroyo and its pools are just ahead.
