CS 1401 Assignment #3

Date Assigned: Monday, February 4, or Tuesday, February 5, 2008.

Due Date: Monday, February 11, or Tuesday, February 12, 2008, before the beginning of your lab section.

Objective: The main objective of this assignment is to practice graphical input and output and also input, output with files.

Programming assignment: similar to Programming Assignment 2.

Reminder: To ease the parking space problem, the university is proposing to build a second parking garage on Mesa Street. You have been asked to write a program to calculate the cost of building this new garage based upon the number of cars entered by the user, the amount of space required by each car (10 feet by 20 feet), and the fixed price per square foot to build the garage ($54.00 per square foot). Specifically, your program should:

• ask the user to enter a proposed name for the new garage;
• ask the user for the desired number of cars that this garage should hold;
• compute the total cost of a garage holding this number of cars;
• print a message stating the name for the new garage, the number of cars to be parked, and the total cost of the garage based upon that number of cars.

New features:

• set up dialog boxes for input and output;
• format the total cost of the garage to 2 digits after the decimal point (as is natural in representing dollars and cents);
• in addition to printing the message on the screen, store it in a file.

Homework assignment: on a separate sheet of paper, solve Ex. 10 and Ex. 12, p. 162.
