College of Engineering - Subversion Repositories

The Subversion Repositories can be browsed by following the links below:
If you want to add a new repository to the server or have questions regarding the use of Subversion, please ask Jon Ramirez for help. A home-made Subversion tutorial can be found here.

A mailing list for the Subversion repositories has been created and can be found here. Please subscribe to it to stay informed of changes and downtime of the server.

For access to the repositories, a subversion client is needed. At present we are running subversion 1.4.6. Clients are available for the following platforms:

The Subversion source can be installed as follows:
  • Unpack the source in /tmp using the command 'tar zxvf subversion-1.x.0.tar.gz'
  • Change directory into the source folder using 'cd subversion-1.x.0'
  • Run the command './configure' (this will install subversion in /usr/local by default ; if you want to install it in another location use the parameter --prefix=)
  • Build the binaries using the command 'make' and install them using 'make install'
  • The source directory can now be removed with the command 'rm -rf subversion-1.x.0'
You can know use subversion by running the command 'svn' followed by the action and parameters.

KSVN is a Subversion client integrated in the KDE Konqueror file manager. Install it by unzipping and untarring the source tarball, changing directory to ksvn-0.2 and running the install script Gambas 1.0.x needs to be installed to make this work; it can be downloaded here or you can use your favorite package manager to install it.

TortoiseSVN is a Subversion client integrated in the Windows File Explorer, while AnkhSVN is a plugin for MS Visual Studio .NET. Both clients can be installed by double-clicking on the downloaded msi file. This will call up the Windows installer for both clients.

Mac OS X:

To install the command line client, open the disk image and double-click on the .pkg file to start the installer. When finished, the binaries will be installed under /usr/local/bin. For convenience, add the path to your executable search path. For the bash login shell, add the following lines to your ~/.bash_profile file: PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/subversion/bin:$PATH"; export PATH

To install the Finder plugin (SCPlugin), open the disk image and double-click on the .pkg file to start the installer. When finished restart the Finder process: from the Force Quit dialog box, select Finder and press the Relaunch button. Enable Finder integration and point it to the svn binary on the newly created Preference pane. SCPlugin needs the command line version installed and Mac OS X Pather (10.3) or higher.

Documentation is available for both the linux/macosx command line client and windows tortoisesvn client. A FAQ is available for the AnkhSVN Client. They can be downloaded here in cslish:
