CS 1401 Assignment #4

Due Date: Monday, September 25, or Tuesday, September 26, 2006, before the beginning of your lab section.

Objective: The main objective of this assignment is to practice using conditional statements.

Programming assignment: Ex. 4, p. 165 of the book describes how to compute property taxes. Since then, a new city government decided to help the poor and to tax the rich more.

Namely, according to the old rules, the tax rate was $1.05 for every $100 of the assessed value. In the new rules,

for properties whose assessed value is less than $50,000, there is no tax at all;
for properties whose assessed value is $1,000,000 or larger, the tax rate is $2.10 per $100 of assessed value;
for all other properties, the tax rate remains the same as before: $1.05 per $100 of assessed value.

Write a program that do what Ex. 4 asks you to do, with the only difference that it should compute the property tax according to the new rules.

For extra credit: write a program that implements programming assignment No. 4, p. 219.

Homework assignment: on a separate sheet of paper, solve Ex. 2, 4, and 8, pp. 214-217.
